SAN DIEGO -- For 13 seasons, right-handed sluggers have peppered the Western Metal Supply Co. building in the left-field corner at Petco Park, driving home runs into the three decks and off the facade. No one had hit a home run to land on the roof until San Diego Padres rookie Hunter Renfroe did it Wednesday night. His two-run shot went an estimated 435 feet and helped carry the Padres to a 6-5 victory against the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers.A home runs a home run, honestly, said Renfroe, who seemed unimpressed by his mammoth shot with one out in the third off rookie Jose De Leon. I guess its probably pretty cool to be the first one to do it. `Renfroe, the MVP of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, has had an impressive debut since he was called up from Triple-A El Paso on Sept. 21, hitting four home runs and driving in 12 runs in seven games.Itll be hard for him to top the homer that landed atop the brick warehouse, a remnant from the skid row neighborhood that made way for Petco Park, which opened in 2004.You really dont feel anything. Its kind of a like a `spat and then it goes. It disappears real quick and you kind of know its a home a run, said Renfroe, who was the MVP of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.Renfroe drove in all seven runs in Tuesday nights 7-1 win, on his first grand slam and a three-run homer. The three-run blast was a moonshot to left. Then came his roof shot.It was impressive, manager Andy Green said. I think we all know hes got a ton of raw power. I wasnt expecting that. But I guess maybe he did miss the one yesterday out to left. I guess he didnt hit it on the barrel, if thats what the barrel does. Its impressive power. Its a great start for him and Im sure hes pleased to get off on that right foot.Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the home run came off pretty hot. This kid has power and is swinging the bat really well. You make a mistake and get it over, he is going to make you pay.De Leon said Renfroe is pretty powerful. You have to tip your hat to him. The pitch was in where we wanted and he just got the head out and it was a monster shot. There is nothing you can do about that.Los Angeles remains two games behind the Washington Nationals in the race for home-field advantage for their division series matchup, with four to play. The Dodgers lost despite hitting three home runs off rookie Luis Perdomo (9-10), who had three of four starts coming in. Brandon Maurer pitched the ninth for his 13th save.Chase Utley hit a leadoff homer to left and Adrian Gonzalez add a solo shot deep into the seats in right with two outs in the first. The Padres took a 3-2 lead off De Leon after loading the bases with one out in first. Renfroe hit a two-run single and rookie Ryan Schimpf followed with an RBI double.Gonzalez hit an RBI double to tie it in the third before Renfroe gave the Padres a 5-3 lead with his homer. The Dodgers tied it on Joc Pedersons two-run homer to right in the fourth.San Diego regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when rookie Manuel Margot doubled off Ross Stripling (5-9) and scored on Wil Myers groundout.Perdomo allowed five runs and seven hits in five innings, struck out two and walked one.Perdomo was a Rule 5 draft pick who had never pitched above A ball. His futures really bright, Green said. I think its a really impressive season for a guy who came from A ball last year and spent most of the year in low A. Were really pleased. I know today he would have loved to have had a better last outing but he kept us in the game to get a win. That says something about his development.De Leon allowed five runs, three earned on four hits in 2 1/3 innings, struck out one and walked three.TRAINERS ROOMDodgers: The team said LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu underwent an arthroscopic cleanup of his left elbow, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. The Cubs decided to pitch to the Reds catcher with two outs, two on and the pitcher up next. Hanigan hit a three-run homer that put Cincinnati ahead to stay, and the Reds beat the Cubs 7-4 on Friday night for their fourth straight win. Joey Votto extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a solo homer, and Brandon Phillips added a two-run shot. But it was Hanigans second homer that made the difference. With starter Bronson Arroyo on deck in the fourth inning, Cubs starter Scott Feldman (4-4) fell behind 3-0 in the count to Hanigan, then decided to try to get him out. Hanigan worked the count full before connecting for a 5-3 lead. Surprised he even got the chance? "A little bit," Hanigan said. "At that point in the game, I didnt think a pinch-hitter was coming in. They went at me and I got a pitch to handle. That was a big turn in the game, a five-run inning." The game-turning pitch was a hanging curve. "That was a really bonehead pitch," Feldman said. "With the pitcher on deck, I threw the one pitch he can hit for a three-run homer. That one stings a little bit." The big inning kept the Reds on the upswing. Theyve won 12 of their past 15 games, surging to a season-high 12 games over .500. At 30-18, theyre three wins ahead of their pace last season, when they won 97 games and the NL Central. Theyve dominated the Cubs, winning 15 of their past 17. The Reds are 18-5 overall against the Cubs in the past two seasons. Chicago is last in the NL Central, having lost a season-high five straight. The Cubs (18-29) slid a season-low 11 games under .500. Votto and Hanigan homered in the fourth inning off Feldman, who had only one bad inning. Feldman gave up five runs in the fourth, the same number hed allowed in his past five starts combined. Phillips hit a two-run shot in the eighth off Hector Rondon. Arroyo (5-4) gave up three runs and six hits in six innings, including Feldmans first career homer. Jonathan Broxton allowed Luis Valbuenas RBI single in the eighth. Aroldis Chapman pitched the ninth for his 11th save in 13 chances. After blowing a pair of save opportunities, the left-hander has converted his past three. He gave up a single and a walk and fanned threee.dddddddddddd The Reds had their third sellout crowd of the season, and the last two games of the series will draw capacity crowds as well. The Cubs stacked their lineup with six position players and a starting pitcher who bat left-handed, trying a different approach against Arroyo. It worked, but not well enough. "I didnt feel great the whole game, to be honest," Arroyo said. "They ran seven left-handers against me. They had guys from the left side that I hadnt seen a lot. "It was a grind for me, to be honest." Arroyo had trouble keeping his pitches down at the outset. Darwin Barney had a sacrifice fly in the second inning, and Feldman followed with his first career homer, a two-run shot for a 3-0 lead. Cubs pitchers have driven in 15 runs this season, most in the majors. The three-run inning ended Arroyos streak of 15 1-3 scoreless innings, his best of the season. The right-hander has won his past three starts. Feldman had his streak of five impressive starts fall apart in the fourth. Votto led off with his eighth homer, extending his hitting streak to 12 games, the longest by a Reds player this season. He leads the NL with a .361 batting average. And that was just the start. Phillips followed with a single, stretching his hitting streak to a season-best 11 games, and eventually scored on Xavier Pauls single. Hanigans three-run homer -- his second -- made it 5-3. The five runs matched the most allowed by the Cubs in an inning this season. They were the most earned runs allowed by Feldman in a game this season.
