Indias Yogeshwar Dutt has asked wrestling authorities to let the London Olympics 60kg wrestling silver medal remain with the family of the deceased Russian wrestler Besik Kudukhov, who had been stripped of the medal following a positive dope test.On Tuesday, Kudukhovs silver was formally awarded to Yogeshwar, who had lost to the Russian in the quarterfinals. Kudukhov, a four-time world champion, died in a car crash in 2013. He failed a World Anti-Doping Agency dope test conducted on his sample from 2012 before the Rio Games.Medal jaane se unke parivaar ko takleef hogi 100% (Kudukhovs family would be pained for sure when the medal is taken away from them), Yogeshwar told ESPN. For his mother and father, that medal contains memories of their child and that is all they have left with them today. The news about the upgrade to the London silver, rather than bring him any satisfaction, Yogeshwar said, had kept him awake at night.I had heard about his death in 2013 and if Kudukhov was alive it was a different thing but he is no more, he said. Yesterday I thought about his parents and his family. We cant do anything for them who today only have his memories with them. Failed ho ya kuch bhi ho, yeh woh medal usi ke paas rahe. Yaadein hi hai uski, uski family ke paas?(Whether he failed his dope test or not, that medal should stay with his family. That medal contains special memories for his family, that is all they have of him.) I would not like that medal or anything taken away from his family through which they remember him. Usko soch ke laga ki yeh theek rahega?(When I thought about it I felt this would be best). When Yogeshwar was informed about his upgrade from a bronze to a silver medal, he said: Mere ko khushi nahi hui (It brought me no happiness). I have my bronze medal with me. Ab koi farak nahin padta kya hai, kya nahi hai (It doesnt matter now what is with you and what is not). The wrestler, who is currently based in Madhuban with the Haryana Police, said he had not been able to recover from his disappointment over Rio. Ive still not been able to work out what happened there and I know I could not fulfil what I had set out to do, he said.Earlier in the day, Yogeshwar offered to forgo his silver through Twitter.Besik Kudukhov ?????? ?????? ??? ???? ?????? ?? ?????? dope test ??? fail ?? ???? ???? ???? ??? ??????? ?? ??? ??? ???? ?????? ???? ????- Yogeshwar Dutt (@DuttYogi) 31 August 2016Translation: Besik Kudukhov was a magnificent wrestler.
