RIO DE JANEIRO -- Being an archer in South Korea, pressure just inherently comes with the territory.Defending Olympic champion Ki Bo-bae certainly felt that weight. Same with top-seeded Choi Mi-sun, who went out earlier than expected.Good thing teammate Chang Hye-jin was impervious to the effects of tension as she kept the South Korean archery dynasty chugging along.Chang won the Olympic gold medal in the womens individual event Thursday by holding off surprise finalist Lisa Unruh of Germany. Chang was the pillar of consistency on a windy day at the Sambadrome, winning the final match 6-2 over Unruh.Ki, the 2012 London Olympic winner, earned bronze after stumbling against Chang in the semifinals. With a big assist from Chang, the archery powerhouse nation took home gold in the event for the eighth time in nine Olympics.Gold is the expectation. Thats a lot of anxiety. We were under such a great pressure, said Ki, who beat Alejandra Valencia of Mexico 6-4 in the bronze-medal match. Im very grateful to my friend (Chang), because she fulfilled the responsibility and she won the gold medal for our team.Four years ago, Chang was watching the Olympics from back home after finishing fourth during her nations selection process. This time, she secured the third and final spot. But she was hardly the South Korean everyone expected to win. That would be Ki. Or even Choi.Chang just went about her business of shooting well enough to advance. And when she met Ki in the semifinals, she pictured her as just some random archer -- not a teammate or a good friend.Only after knocking off Ki did she fully realize what she had just accomplished.I felt a lot of responsibility, Chang said. I should do my best to win this in the final. She did, too. Despite the constantly swirling wind, she found a way to unseat Unruh, who was the 21st-seeded archer and needed a winner-take-all extra arrow to even make it out of the quarterfinals.I cant believe Im an Olympic medalist, Unruh said. Im so happy now I cant speak.Choi was upset in the quarterfinals by Valencia, 6-0. Chois nerves betrayed her as she misfired on her first arrow and scored a five -- an uncharacteristic mistake for the top-ranked archer in the world. She never quite recovered.Thats why I lose confidence and I got the results in the end, Choi explained. I couldnt focus on myself today. Its been a fruitful Olympic showing for the South Koreans at the Sambadrome. Chang, Ki and Choi also lifted South Korea to a team title Sunday. The men won a team crown as well.Next up, the mens competition Friday to close things out. Although top-seeded Kim Woo-jin was knocked out in the second round, Ku Bonchan and Lee Seungyun are still in the field and have a shot to make it a clean gold-medal sweep for the South Koreans. The country already has 22 all-time Olympic gold medals in archery, which is one more than short-track speedskating for the label of most successful South Korean sport at the games.Any one of us has to win the gold medal, Ki said. Its kind of a competition among Korean archers.Serge Savard Canadiens Jersey . There was no hesitation from the 40th-ranked Pospisil, from Vernon, B.C., who admitted that he cut back on his training sessions over the last few days to conserve energy as the long ATP season finishes next week at the Paris Masters.Jonathan Lucroy got a deal he liked, Carlos Beltran joined him in Texas and Jay Bruce and Rich Hill also moved Monday during an 18-swap frenzy at the trade deadline.Matt Moore, Francisco Liriano and Joe Smith found new homes, too, as playoff contenders stocked up for the stretch.Thats what we play for. Those are the moments we want to be in, Moore said after NL West-leading San Francisco got the lefty from last-place Tampa Bay. For someone to reach out and come get me, its a really good feeling.Monday was the busiest deadline day since at least 1995, eclipsing the 15 deals made on the final day for non-waiver trades in 2010 and 2015, according to Major League Baseball.Teams had until 4 p.m. EDT to make trades without waivers. From now, no player can be dealt unless he goes unclaimed by everyone else. The AL West-leading Rangers made two major moves. After Lucroy used his limited no-trade clause to block a deal to Cleveland, the All-Star catcher was sent to Texas. Now, moving on to the (at)Rangers lets take this bad boy to the `ship! Really excited and cant wait to get after it! he posted on Twitter. The 30-year-old Lucroy is batting .299 with 13 homers and 50 RBI this season.Texas also got Beltran, a proven postseason star, from the New York Yankees for righty Dillon Tate, the fourth overall pick in the 2015 amateur draft, and two other pitching prospects.I think as a player, you know that this moment could happen. But when it happens, it hits you, Beltran said.Twice before in his career, Beltran was traded in midseason to a team with playoff hopes. Like the Rangers, Beltran has been to the World Series but never won the crown. The Yankees kept reworking their roster, trying to turn the best parts of a .500 team into a bright future. They had already traded relief aces Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller leading up to the deadline. Were kind of in unfamiliar territory with the YYankees, first baseman Mark Teixeira said.ddddddddddddThats life. I mean, weve had a nice run the last eight years, he said.As always, relievers were in demand. The Giants aimed to bolster a shaky bullpen by getting Will Smith from Milwaukee, Boston got Fernando Abad from Minnesota and the NL Central-leading Cubs obtained sidearming righty Joe Smith from the Angels. The Cubs previously got lefties Chapman and Mike Montgomery for their bullpen. That was an area we thought we could make some changes, general manager Jed Hoyer said. Adding a closer, a left-hander and then adding a guy like Smith who can be a right-handed specialist, we felt like those were areas that would improve our team and improve the mix of our bullpen. The banged-up Mets acquired Bruce, the All-Star outfielder who leads the NL with 80 RBI, from Cincinnati for infielder Dilson Herrera and minor league lefty Max Wotell. The Mets also got pitcher Jon Niese, who spent his first eight years in New York, from Pittsburgh for reliever Antonio Bastardo. The contending Los Angeles Dodgers fortified their rotation by getting Rich Hill along with outfielder Josh Reddick from Oakland for three pitching prospects.Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is on the disabled list with back trouble, and they dont know when hell be back. The 36-year-old Hill is 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 14 starts and on the DL because of a blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand that hasnt healed.Toronto was busy, making three deals. A day after falling out of the AL East lead, they got Liriano from Pittsburgh.Where hes been and what hes accomplished his entire career, we feel like gives us a chance to have someone who could be pitching in Game 2, 3 or 4 of a World Series run, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said.
