Rochdales Matty Gillam produced a contender for miss of the year, heading onto the bar from just a yard out in the win over Hartlepool. Gillam, who had already scored in the 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory, saw the ball loop fortuitously onto his head from a cross, but he could only direct the ball onto the crossbar when it seemed harder to miss. The handful of Rochdale fans behind the goal assumed Gillam would score, but looked on in disbelief as the youngster failed to add to the visitors lead. The win means Rochdale have qualified for the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy, having picked up two wins and a penalty shoot-out victory in their group with Sunderland Under 23s, Notts County and Hartlepool.
